EMDR Therapy
Healing Is A Journey For The Self, Whilst Being Held Safely By Another
EMDR Therapy
We provide counselling for our clients presenting with a range of issues and concerns and are able to work with children, adolescents and adults. Our therapists are trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, with our main modality being EMDR Therapy. EMDR Therapy is designated by the World Health Organisation as holding the most evidence base for the treatment of Trauma, Complex Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR Therapy is highly effective for both ‘simple’ and ‘complex’ trauma. However, the treatment of Complex Trauma requires a much higher level of training in EMDR Therapy, which our therapists have obtained. Over 30 years of research on EMDR Therapy has also highlighted its success in the treatment of many other mental health presentations.
Within the model of EMDR Therapy we also incorporate, where appropriate, other therapeutic approaches such as developmental and attachment frameworks, psychobiology of trauma, polyvagal theory, play therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy.
While we work with a wide range of presenting concerns, our therapists have particular experience in providing therapeutic support for those who have experienced trauma, including childhood sexual or physical assault, Out of Home Care, grief and loss, domestic violence, sexual assault, victims of crime, traumatic accidents, developmental disruption, medical trauma, attachment disruption and dissociative disorders. Some of our therapists are also able to support clients under their NDIS needs.
When working with children, we are committed to working closely with parents and carers in building their knowledge and skills to support children in their day-to-day life. Our therapists have extensive training and experience in working with children and adolescents, and utilising EMDR Therapy with children. Our work with children and adolescents incorporates developmentally considered approaches and ensures a warm and playful environment in order to explore and recover from their concerns and worries.
Our work with adults often involves exploring their past experiences and how these may impact their current day-to-day life, relationships and own parenting. As a psychology practice that has a particular interest in working with trauma, our work with adults also often involves working with adult survivors of trauma and childhood trauma.
